If you’re like me you love South Park. They have a completely unique way of looking at pop culture, sports and political issues and showing us just how silly they usually are while offering a common sense approach and or solution.
One of my absolute favorite episodes is “With Apologies to Jesse Jackson” in which Randy Marsh uses the “N” word when trying to solve a Wheel of Fortune puzzle. In order to make up for his mistake Randy goes to Jesse Jackson to apologize where Jesse decides the only appropriate apology is to have Randy kiss his bare ass.
I love it. It couldn’t have been more over the top and ridiculous and as it turns out fitting for this article. You see, ever since Kentucky Basketball hired John Calipari in the spring of 2009, the NCAA and the national media have had their microscopes finely tuned on the controversial coach.
They couldn’t stand that UK had hired such a prominent recruiter to the mecca of college basketball. They screamed that UK sold out to win and hired a cheater. At every opportunity they tried to investigate players (Eric Bledsoe) or criticize the team (Educated Kids vs The One-n-Dones) or criticize the coach (John Calipari) and each time, they came up on the losing end of that proposition.
When a coach who did it the “right way” in coach K won the title with one and done players he wasn’t slammed for doing what Cal did, he was lauded as a great teacher and adapting to the game. Pat Forde said that Coach K “has now beaten John Calipari at his own game”. Please explain that to me Pat. First Cal had already won a title with one and done players and won 38 games. That’s 3 more than K’s team. Additionally, Coach K is finding out just how hard Cal’s philosophy is this year as Duke has struggled to compete and has fallen out of the top 25. Don’t forget Dukes loses to Lehigh and Mercer in those stats as well.
During Cal’s tenure at UK, Pat Forde has been front and center as the voice against Cal. He has on multiple opportunities taken the time to pen a negative article about the Hall of Fame Kentucky Coach. That’s because Pat is a long time Calipari hater, a one sided “journalist” and more importantly was a long time Louisville journalist and confidant to Rick Pitino, widely considered Cal’s biggest rival. In the art of journalism, you are supposed to present an argument based on the facts in front of you. Pat has had no problem doing that (with limited facts) to John Calipari but his pen suspiciously seems to run out of ink at each Pitino blow up.
In his famous “Lie in your bed article” Pat says Cal hit rock bottom against South Carolina and then skipped the press conference. “When the tough got going, Cal got out.” he said. Then he proceeded to ask imaginary, inflammatory questions that Cal should have answered.
When Pitino pulled the same stunt against UK this year (accented with a middle finger to the crowd), Pat said he handled it poorly but it’s because he hates losing and that’s what drives him to win and that he should’ve answered questions. Probably questions like “How many strippers do you think it would take to land a guy like Ben Simmons?” or “Can you ever beat Calipari if he doesn’t have his worst team by far at UK?” or “Does that finger stay erect for more than 15 seconds?” (Pitino does seem to be around a lot of whores)
Forde and many of his media brethren have continued to call Cal a cheater and slime and a horrible person who exploits the system and brings in “Thugs” while defending his buddy Pitino. Really? Let’s examine for a minute the facts between the two Italian coaches since Cal has reached UK:
John Calipari –
- Has continued to bring in kids that are pillars of their community. Not for being great basketball players (which they are) but for being great citizens. Guys like John Wall who donated 400k to charity or Demarcus Cousins (often demonized) who hosts a free camp, donates Christmas presents to needy kids and donated a scoreboard to the Sacramento High School staff. Guys like Anthony Davis who won the NBA Cares Community Assist Award. You know, the one and done thugs you speak of….
- He has run a charity and foundation and given back to the community, been a faithful husband a mentor to great young men and an extremely successful basketball coach
Rick Pitino –
- Has continued to bring in troubled kids such as Chane Behanan or Chris Jones…the list goes on
- Says his best friend is Billy Minardi (his brother-in-law who was tragically killed in the 9/11 attacks) and how does he honor him? Cheats on his sister with a two bit whore.
- Has now lead Louisville to a one year (and probably bigger) self imposed post season ban because of allowing hookers in of all places “Billy Minardi Hall” to dance for and have sex with recruits and players. Don’t tell me Pitino didn’t know either, that is the same thing John Calipari has said in both instances of his past as well.
- Has been an extremely successful basketball coach
I guess you’re right Pat. Cal is the coach of thugs and Pitino is the golden child. Pitino is clearly who a university would want to set an example and lead their young men.
Or maybe, with all of this evidence laid out before you, you can get off of your high horse. I believe the only real way for you and the rest of the Cal hating media to redeem yourself and right all of your wrongs is to say you’re sorry. So as Jesse Jackson demands in South Park, get on your knees and kiss John Calipari’s bare ass at mid-court of Rupp Arena and “apologize”.
